As you are aware, South Africa will be in a nation-wide lockdown from Friday 27 March 2020 following President Ramaphosa’s announcement earlier this week.
In our ongoing effort to keep everyone safe and remind our valued suppliers that we’re in this together, we share this update.
Having reviewed available information pertaining to businesses exempt from the lockdown, we have reached the conclusion that Kaap Agri and its subsidiaries are classified as an essential service.
As a company that is critical in the food value chain and provisions of essential products, we as Kaap Agri are included as part of the exempted essential services, particularly because we are:
- suppliers of critical inputs in relation to food supply (e.g. fertilisers, chemicals, packaging material, pesticides, seed, animal feed, animal medicine, etc.);
- suppliers of fuel, used both in the production of food (e.g. on-farm), and logistics of essential services;
- suppliers of food; and
- suppliers of protective clothing, personal hygiene products, materials, chemicals and related equipment necessary for sanitisation.
As a result, the following Kaap Agri divisions will adapt and revise their operational requirements to essential services but will continue to operate normally as far as possible under the circumstances, until further notice.
Although we are included as part of essential services, we need to be responsible in our trading efforts and ensure that we safeguard the health of our employees, customers and stakeholders, all of whom are better off because we exist. Accordingly, our operating points will have minimal staff and all previously communicated protocols with regard to interaction with suppliers, social distancing and hygiene, still applies.
We ask that our suppliers keep communication channels open and advise us as soon as possible if any disruption to operations is expected.
Thank you for your ongoing co-operation and collaboration – be well.
