Kaap Agri is a leader in the agricultural sector with regard to black economic empowerment (BEE) due to more than 25% of its shares being owned by BEE groups from the previously disadvantaged. The company is already a Level 3 SEB contributor with a 110% acknowledgement level, and is striving towards increasing this even more. This score is one of the best in the agricultural supply chain industry.
The Kaap Agri Employee and Farmworkers Trust was formed with 5% of Kaap Agri shares being issued to the Trust. The dividend income is used to repay a loan and for utilization by the Trust. The Trust’s beneficiaries are farm labourers, their families and communities, as well as Kaap Agri employees from previously disadvantaged groups within the areas we operate.
For the work done by Kaap Agri within its communities, it was honoured in 2014 by being appointed as the overall winner of the Media24 prize for social investment by unlisted companies. Kaap Agri was also placed first in the skills development category.
Although the responsibility for social and sustainable conducts lies with every Kaap Agri employee, their compliance is also monitored by the board through the social and ethical committee which formally meets with management, and who also reports to the board.
